Juanita Gabriel is a printmaker artist living in Canberra, Australia. She initially studied fine art at the Johannesburg School of Art, South Africa and later studied at the National Art School, Sydney, Australia.
Juanita has practised printmaking over thirty years and has an extensive portfolio of printed works including woodcuts, linocuts, etchings, lithographs, aquatints, as well as fabric and paper screen prints.
Juanita’s figurative, original images and compositions are strongly influenced by mythology, prehistory, ancient cultures and motifs from the natural world, which record an enduring, collective consciousness of movement, dance, grace and beauty.
Juanita has lived in Canberra since since 1998 where she established her studio, and where she has produced most of her mature works.
The image above is entitled Discourse. The work is an acquatint etching on copper and has a fine vicosity overlay of sepia, blue and pink, printed on BFK Rives Arches and dated 1991., Dimensions are: 10cm x 30cm.
